It sometimes seems as though every time you hop on Pinterest or open a DIY magazine, every project you see will require the purchase of a whole bunch of items whose combined price is more than what you would have spent buying something already made.
If you don’t have a huge crafting budget, never fear. You’d be surprised with what you can make just out of the junk in your recyclables bin. Seriously, some of these look so good, you won’t be able to tell what they’re made of. Prepare to be astounded.

Window valances or cardboard boxes?
Image Credit: In My Own Style Believe it or not, these fine looking window hats were made of cardboard, which is great news for all of us who don’t want to fork out cash for lumber or wander around awkwardly in the improvement store waiting for someone who can reach the big plywood for us.

Toilet paper tube wall art
Image Credit: The How To Gal This amazing wall art was made out of toilet paper tubes. I can’t believe I’ve been throwing these out all of these years. This is way better than anything you can find at Target.

Coffee can canisters
Image Credit: Kelli's Kitchen Also made out of coffee cans: These awesome canisters.
I always feel so sad throwing away coffee cans. It seems like they must have so many uses, but I am not as DIY inclined as I wish I was, so they pile up until someone yells at me. I never would have even thought about something like this.

Tire ottoman
Image Credit: That Was A What?! This ottoman was made out of… a tire. Seriously. It’s hard to believe until you go take a look for yourself. I think I could definitely do this one. Wrapping that ottoman would be pretty zen.

Pouf lights or plastic bags?
Image Credit: matsutake And these pouf lights were made out of… plastic bags. Again with the, “Wait, seriously?” I think at some point everyone has made little poufballs out of plastic bags, but never this good and never as a working lamp.

Fancy berry baskets
Image Credit: Lovely Indeed You can make these gold berry baskets from regular berry baskets. Hey, not everything is an astounding transformation. Some upcyclables just look like a trendier reincarnation of themselves. Remember these words: The answer is never not gold spray paint.

Plastic spoons turned trees
Image Credit: One Project Closer This tree is made completely out of plastic spoons. This one is technically a Christmas tree, but there is absolutely nothing stopping you from decorating it in any color you wish. You can have an upcycled Halloween tree. Upcycled Valentine’s tree. Every holiday needs a tree, if you ask me.
