Sex and the City handbags

With Sex and the City: The Movie set to hit theaters around the country at the end of the month. Everyone is buzzing about the fashions in the movie, from the hats to the handbags.

Carrie Bradshaw and Mr. Big - Sex and the City

As with the television show, in the film the Sex and the City fashions take on a life of their own, almost like a fifth character. Let’s take a look at some of the handbags we’ll see in the SATC movie.

Fashionistas around the world are talking about the Eiffel Tower bag that Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) is carrying in some of the movie’s first scenes. In the series finale, Carrie had followed her lover, Aleksandr Petrovsky (played by Mikhail Baryshnikov) to Paris. Therefore, the Eiffel Tower bag was selected as a sort of ode to this romance.

Sex and the City Eiffel Tower Bag The Eiffel Tower bag was created by California designer Timmy Woods. The bag is carved from acacia wood, finished with goldtone hardware and adorned with thousands of crystals. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen Carrie with one of Timmy Woods’ bags. If you remember the episode where she was carrying a bag shaped like a horse’s head, that was another piece from Timmy Woods.

Do you want you own Eiffel Tower bag just like Carrie Bradshaw’s? Well it won’t come cheap. The Eiffel Tower Bag, which is embellished with about 6,300 Swarovski crystals, is $3000. If you are on a budget, you can get the bag without the crystals for $450.

Don’t expect much in terms of how much the bag can hold. You’ll be lucky to fit a lipstick and your keys inside. But, as most of the Sex and the City fashions, this bag wasn’t designed for functionality.

Throughout the series, handbags were at the forefront as well. In one episode, Samantha (Kim Cattrall) really wants a red Hermès Birkin bag and will do anything to get it. The wait list for an authentic Birkin (on the show and in real life) can be up to two years and cost well over a $5,000. Samantha uses Lucy Liu’s name to try to get the coveted bag. And though her plan backfired, women around the world could definitely relate!

Back to the movie set, let’s take a look at some of the many flamboyant and wonderful bags that you will love in the movie.

Carrie’s feather bag

Here we see Carrie holding a Salvatore Ferragamo pheasant feather bag. Feathers are all the rage right now. This bag comes in two different sizes, priced at $1,550 and $3,100. Sarah Jessica Parker is carrying the smaller version.

Pretty in prints

The ladies look fabulous in their colorful print dresses. Charlotte (Kristin Davis) wears a feminine black and white Ferragamo dress and carries a Chanel bag. Carrie wears a red and white floral multi-tiered dress and carries a Fendi bright orange hard pencil case. And Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) wears a Maggie London dress, metallic gold belt and Gucci pumps.

Jennifer Hudson’s bag

In the film, Carrie is writing for The New York Post and she has an assistant, Louise (played by Jennifer Hudson). Carrie asks Louise where she got her bag and Louise tells her all about Bag Borrow or Steal. If you don’t know about it, this website allows you to rent the top designer bags for a specified period of time. It’s great for those of us who can’t afford the real thing.

Samantha in yellow

Samantha looks hot as always. She’s wearing a yellow Versace dress, fab Jimmy Choo sandals and a Nancy Gonzales handbag. I just love that they dressed up her dog in yellow too! It’s so Samantha!

Girls night out

On an evening out in NYC’s Meatpacking District, the ladies of Sex and the City are all decked out. Charlotte wears a Vicki Tiel dress, Miu Miu shoes and of course, a Chanel bag. Carrie dons Dior sandals and a VBH bag. Samantha’s Stuart Weitzman shoes and glitzy Swarovski bag are perfect complements to her mirrored dress. And Miranda isn’t outdone either; she puts on a Carolina Herrera dress, along with Brian Atwood shoes and a Roberto Cavalli handbag.

These handbags are just a sampling of the bags you will see when Sex and the City: The Movie hits the big screen! We can hardly wait!
