Have a clean and fresh-smelling kitchen. Here’s how:
Run a lemon (cut into wedges) through the garbage disposal. Simmer cinnamon sticks, nutmeg and/or cloves in a pan of water to scent the air. Make sure your sponges are sparking clean by rinsing them with bleach, running them through the dishwasher, or tossing them into the microwave for a minute. Bake sliced orange peels in the oven at 300 degrees for 15-20 minutes, then open the oven a crack to allow the aroma to spread throughout the house. Boil some vinegar and water (1:1) in the microwave or on the stove. It will smell strong for a little while, but when it dissipates, should take any other odors along with it. Sprinkle 1/2 cup borax in the bottom of garbage pails or diaper pails to inhibit mold and bacteria growth that can cause odors. Make sure your dishes are washed, the sink is clean and the dishwasher has been run. Ensure that your foods (especially anything greasy or oily) are tightly sealed, whether in the fridge or cupboard. Open a box of baking soda and put it in the refrigerator. Bake something! Whether a pie, cookies or a cake — it will all make the kitchen (and the rest of the house!) smell wonderful.
