Swimming is so much fun for the kids in the summer, and it’s a fantastic way to keep them active too. For summer birthdays, a new swimsuit, cover-up, swim goggles, swim vest or other swim accessories are great choices. You can also give your child toys to play with in the pool — from water basketball to sinking rings. If you don’t have a pool in your own backyard, most areas have a community pool that is free or very low cost for families in the neighborhood.

Even if you aren’t taking a big summer vacation this year, you can take your family on a road trip for a quick weekend getaway to celebrate your child’s birthday. A trip to the lake or beach for camping, fishing, hiking and other outdoor activities can be a great bonding experience for the whole family — and overnight or weekend trips can be very affordable.
