Mom says cat took a bullet and saved her son's life
This cat may have just saved a little boy's life by unwittingly getting hit by a stray bullet.
Opie the cat was lying on a couch by the window in Angelica Sipe's home when a bullet shot through the window, went through the couch, and then hit the cat in the head and continued through the cat's neck and armpit before flying across the room to another couch, narrowly missing Sipe's son's head.
"The first thing I did was check on my son, and he was sound asleep. Then I saw my cat on the floor, and that's when I realized my cat was shot," Sipe told FOX 43.
"I saw blood on the top of his head. I didn't know how bad it was," she said.
Sipe rushed Opie to an emergency veterinarian, where the vet gave Sipe the option of putting the cat down. But Sipe declined despite the financial hardship the vet bills would cause, saying, "I wanted to keep him. He was my son's little hero, so I need to keep him around."
Opie's vet bills have reached over $1,000, and a GoFundMe, which is currently fully funded, has been set up to aid in his recovery. Sipe says any extra money will be donated to an animal hospital.
