Dog chew toy recall: 6 Important symptoms to look for
TFH Publications, Inc./Nylabone Products has issued a voluntary recall of its Puppy Starter Kit dog chew bones. Here's what you need to know if your dogs have been exposed.
Product description: Nylabone Puppy Starter Kit, 1.69 ounces
Package markings: You'll find the following markings on the back of the affected packages:
- Lot #21935, UPC 0-18214-81291-3
- Expiration date 3/22/18
Reason for recall: Routine testing revealed the presence of salmonella in the affected lot. There have been no illnesses or injuries reported.
What you should do: If you have a Nylabone Puppy Starter Kit that is subject to this recall, you should stop handling or using them and return the unused portion to the point of purchase for a full refund.
If you have questions: You can contact Nylabone at 1-877-273-7527, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Central time.
Symptoms to look for: Pets that have been infected will present with some, or possibly all, of the following symptoms, which are very similar to what people experience when infected with salmonella.
- Abdominal pain
- Decrease in appetite
Unfortunately, pets can be infected and have no symptoms, but they can still pass the infection on to other humans and pets. Additionally, humans should avoid touching the opened toys and wash their hands thoroughly after coming in contact with them. No matter what, even if your animal friend doesn't appear very ill (or only has mild symptoms), if they have been exposed to these recalled products you should consult your pet's veterinarian.
