How to survive a family get-together, according to the experts

Dec 24, 2014 at 1:37 p.m. ET

Family reunions should be a time of thankfulness and togetherness, but it's easy to become overwhelmed. Take a cue from our precious pets and enjoy your best family gathering yet.

Greet all family with kindness. (Even those who are a little "different.")

Always set an extra place for that unexpected visitor.

Be patient with guests whose table manners are lacking.

After dinner, gather 'round for some singing.

Be patient with that annoying uncle. He means well.

Commemorate the event with lots of pictures.

Don't be sad when everybody leaves. They'll all be back for next year's reunion!
