When they were little, your kids begged you incessantly to play with them. Now that they’re teens, it’s like the tables have turned, and it’s you vying for some quality time. But any parent of a teenager knows that coaxing them out of their rooms (or off of their phones) requires some serious incentive. In other words: this better be good.

While the words “family time” might elicit an eye roll or a groan — let’s face it, what doesn’t these days?! — you might be surprised at how easy it is to get your teen involved (and, dare we say, even engaged?) when you throw one of these board games in the mix. Curated by a mom of three teenagers and one tween, these games are tried-and-true picks that have been personally tested and recommended by even the most apathetic of teens.

The best board games for teens are the ones that get them talking, laughing — and sometimes drawing, dancing, miming, or throwing things. Because if the promise of letting your teens (gently) hit their family members doesn’t lure them out of their rooms, we don’t know what will.
