While we all look forward to admiring glimmering holiday lights, watching holiday movies, and unwrapping presents during Christmas, one of our other favorite family traditions is reading classic Christmas books with the kids in our lives. There’s something so sweet about sharing our favorite books — ones we read as kids — with the next generation, and experiencing them again through their eyes.
But where to start? You can spend their entire childhood going through every Christmas book for kids, but there are some that are must-reads, so you should add them to their library first.
From fantastical favorites like How the Grinch Stole Christmas to adventurous tales like The Polar Express, these books are guaranteed to leave kids with visions of sugarplums dancing in their heads. While many Christmas books tend to rely on the more fun and modern aspects of the holiday (don’t get us wrong — we love Santa and Frosty), you might also want to share the story behind the celebration: The Story of Christmas is a kid-friendly way to introduce little ones to the legend of Jesus’ birth and the deeper meaning behind giving gifts.
Ahead, check out all the best Christmas books for kids that’ll explain the true meaning of Christmas, and bring the magic of the holiday to life.
