In addition to the fish and typical sea life you’d expect at an aquarium, Mystic Aquarium has special exhibits that feature beluga whales, sea lions, penguins and much more.
When visiting the aquarium, you could simply walk around to view all the sights. However, we highly recommend the guided tours, various animal shows, hands-on exhibits and live theater. Mystic Aquarium also features a 4D movie theater, which is a great place to rest, drink and eat while you gear up for more action. The theater is relatively small (it has a capacity of fewer than 40 people) but every seat is a great seat, although it should be noted that entrance into the theater costs extra.
The educational aspect of this aquarium also gets rave reviews. There are summer camps for children, classes and programs for families, and even an immersion learning program where you can get an up-close and personal view of the animals. If you have a little one who is infatuated with the aquarium, there is a special preschool program that your child will surely love.
We recommend visiting Mystic Aquarium during the week to avoid the weekend crowds. It’s also advisable to avoid going on a holiday. Since you’ll be doing a lot of walking, make sure that everyone in your family wears comfortable clothes and shoes. Don’t worry about bringing food, because there is a scrumptious cafe at the aquarium.
While the tickets aren’t cheap — starting at around $30 for adults and $20 for children — you definitely get good bang for your buck due to all the wondrous things to see, fun activities and educational opportunities for the whole family. If you are planning on going more than once with your family, be sure to look into buying a family membership in order to save some cash.
