Explore the Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium in Washington in a different light this holiday season — in Christmas lights!
ZooLights at the Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium
If you’ve never been to the Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium, just south of Seattle in Tacoma, Washington, the holiday season is the best time to make your first visit! Every year, it is decorated with over a half a million twinkling, colorful lights that bring the zoo to life in a completely new way with ZooLights!
In addition to just the lights, Point Defiance has other fun holiday activities to explore, such as a scuba diving Santa Claus (see specific dates online that Santa will be diving) and the usual favorites — the carousel, camel rides and amazing animal exhibits.
A few tips for making the most of your visit to ZooLights, especially with little ones in tow: bring a stroller for them to ride in. Not only will it be busy at ZooLights, but it will be dark out and keeping them tucked in a stroller is the best idea. Bundle up, because it’s going to get cold out there. Bring hats, scarves and gloves! Visit right when they open at 5 p.m. when you’re less likely to run into a crowd of excited teenagers exploring the exhibit.
There are a couple of ways to explore ZooLights — you can visit the ZooLights exhibit only or you can add admission to the zoo and aquarium and spend the entire evening visiting your favorite animals as well. Be sure to buy your tickets in advance online to get the best price and to avoid having to stand in line when you get to Point Defiance.
