Florida youth summer camps

School’s out for the summer … and kids are dying of boredom. What to do? Check out one of these great local kids summer camps in Florida.

Summer Camp

KinderCare Learning Centers

What I like most is that, on top of education being one of their top priorities, they created their program by actually talking to kids to find out what they wanted to do this summer. Using the information received from over 3,000 children, KinderCare Learning Centers crafted a summer day camp that delivers just what kids are looking for: irresistible learning opportunities, hands-on involvement and unique experiences.

Their program has different themes for each week, including Wild, Wild West, Wilderness 101, Dig Ancient Egypt, You’ve Got Talent!, Puppeteer Road Show, Gross & Gooey Science, Spectacular Sports, Animal Antics, Science Adventures, Art Expo, Kid’s Kitchen, Splish, Splash!, Surfs Up! and Everyday Heroes.

Ages vary from Pre-K to school-aged children based on the program selected. Registration can be done online at www.kindercare.com/summercamp.

SOAR

Success Oriented Achievement Realized is a program for preteens, teens and adults with Learning Disabilities (LD) and Attention Deficit/ Hyperactive Disorder (AD/HD). This program is designed to help develop self-confidence, social skills, problem-solving techniques, a willingness to attempt new challenges and the motivation which comes through successful goal orientation. SOAR believes all individuals identified with learning disabilities and attention deficit disorder possess talents and gifts that can prove incredible success once the student negotiates the challenging obstacles of childhood, adolescence, and a traditional educational system that is unable to respond to individual learning styles.

SOAR has programs in seven different locations worldwide including North Carolina, Wyoming, California, Costa Rica, Belize, Peru and the Florida Keys. You will find three types of programs available in the Florida Keys: Standard, SCUBA, and Advanced SCUBA. The Standard program includes activities such as swimming, snorkeling, kayaking, tubing, fishing and marine travel. There are four sessions available, each ten days long. The maximum number of students per session is 14, so if this is something you or your child is interested you’ll need to act fast. Ages for this program are 11 to 18. Tuition is $2,900.
