Melissa on screen
You probably first watched Rycroft in the 13th season of ABC reality television series The Bachelor, which ended with Jason Mesnick proposing to her in the season finale. However, in a shocking development, Mesnick broke up with Rycroft in front of millions of viewers on the After the Final Rose (Part One) episode six weeks later, pledging his love for runner-up Molly Malaney.
Rycroft later admitted that she had always been in love with her longtime-sweetheart Tye Strickland and went on to marry him in a seaside ceremony in Mexico that received world-wide attention. She soon after took on co-hosting duties on Dick Clark’s Rocking New Year’s Eve for ABC where she appeared alongside host Ryan Seacrest.
One week after the most talked about season finale in Bachelor history, Rycroft stepped onto the dance floor on the eighth season of Dancing with the Stars. With just two days to prepare for her nationally televised ballroom dancing debut, Rycroft displayed character and strength with an excellent performance. She and her partner, professional dancer, Tony Dovolani, finished in third place but she wasn’t done dancing yet. In fall of 2012, she was crowned champion of Dancing with the Stars All Stars.
Rycroft was also a member of the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders and appeared on two seasons of CMT’s show Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders: Making the Team.
Melissa’s No. 1 role — Mommy
Earlier this year CMT Network aired Melissa and Tye which explored the ups and downs of Melissa’s desire to expand her career in Los Angeles while also maintaining relationships with her family and friends in Texas as her husband commutes each week to build his Dallas-based business. No matter what projects Melissa is working on, her biggest role these days is that of a mom.
Melissa and Tye welcomed a daughter, Ava Grace Strickland, on February 16, 2011.
