Since the first season of ABC’s The Bachelor debuted in 2002, America has been mesmerized by the willingness of hopeful singles to put their heart on the line (and on national TV) to find “the one” in the original series as well as the spin-off, The Bachelorette. The ninth season of The Bachelorette premieres on May 20. Will one of these romantic monikers make your list of baby name contenders?
The Bachelor 1: Alex, the original bachelor, pared his list of would-be fiancees to Amanda and Trista. Alex chose Amanda for a short-lived relationship, while Trista went on to star in the first season of The Bachelorette.
The Bachelorette 1: After The Bachelor 1 sent her home, Trista fell in love with firefighter Ryan, who beat Charlie to win the first season of The Bachelorette. They’re still married and have two children. Contestant Bob starred in Season 4 of The Bachelor.
The Bachelor 4: Bob was so well-liked as a suitor on the first season of The Bachelorette that he became the next bachelor. Bob really liked Kelly Jo but preferred Estella, to whom he presented a promise ring. Meredith, who came in fourth, was featured on Season 2 of The Bachelorette.
The Bachelor 8: Travis Stork of The Doctors fame got his TV start on The Bachelor when he wooed Sarah and Moana to the finale. Travis and Sarah took a chance on a relationship but broke up shortly after the show aired.
The Bachelor 11: Brad whittled the singles down to DeAnna and Jennie before rejecting both of them. DeAnna went on to be featured in Season 4 of The Bachelorette, and a reformed Brad returned to star in Season 15 of The Bachelor.
The Bachelorette 4: DeAnna‘s heart was broken by The Bachelor 11. In turn, she broke Jason‘s heart when she chose Jesse for a short-lived romance. Jason rebounded quickly as The Bachelor 13, while Jesse went on to marry finalist Ann from The Bachelor 13.
The Bachelor 13: After The Bachelorette 4 rejected him, Jason was introduced to two dozen new women. He proposed to Melissa on the season finale, but retracted the offer on the After the Final Rose TV special, when he professed his love for runner-up Molly. Jason and Molly are now married. Third-place finalist Jillian starred in Season 5 of The Bachelorette. Another finalist, Ann, is now married to The Bachelorette winner Jesse.
The Bachelorette 5: Jillian, a Canadian, was hurt by The Bachelor 13. Though fans preferred Kiptyn, Jillian found love with Ed. Alas, their relationship was short-lived. Contestant Jake was chosen to be The Bachelor 14.
The Bachelor 14: A rejected suitor from The Bachelorette 5, Jake returned and fell for the very unpopular Vienna over sweet little Tenley. Finalist Ali moved on to star in Season 6 of The Bachelorette.
The Bachelorette 6: Ali walked away from The Bachelor 14 and right into her own reality TV show. She let Chris go the day before the finale and gave her last rose to hunky Roberto. Sadly, they never made it to the altar.
The Bachelor 15: Brad didn’t pick a fiancee in Season 11. This time around, however, the bachelor broke Chantal‘s heart when he proposed to Emily, with whom he’s since parted ways. Third-place finalist Ashley starred in Season 7 of The Bachelorette, and Emily starred in Season 8.
The Bachelorette 8: Emily won The Bachelor 15, but when that relationship didn’t work out, she was given another shot at love. After narrowing her options down to two, Emily chose Jef over Arie. They’ve since broken up. Second runner-up Sean was selected to be the next bachelor.
The Bachelor 17: It’s been just two months since Sean proposed to Catherine, and the two are still happily engaged and planning a TV wedding. Lindsay was the rejected finalist, and Desiree — who came in fourth — will be featured in the ninth season of The Bachelorette, which will debut on May 20, 2013.
