Celebrity mom cover stories: Kate Beckinsale, Anna Paquin, Kerri Walsh
Some of our favorite celebrity moms were on the covers of magazines this month. Kate Beckinsale talked about being one tough mama in Women's Health, while Anna Paquin talked pregnancy in Redbook. Olympian Kerri Walsh made us green with envy with her six pack abs in Fitness, while Ann Curry opened up to Ladies Home Journal. A gorgeous Ali Landry also graced the cover of Babystyle.
Total Recall actress Kate Beckinsale looked amazing in the July/August issue of Women’s Health magazine. The 38-year-old actress and mom talked about how she got in amazing kick-butt shape for her new movie.
"I'd gotten particularly sick of being photographed outside a gym doing a squat with a medicine ball," she said, explaining why she switched from an intense gym workout to yoga-based routines.
In fact, her first gym experience was with Arnold Schwarzenegger's former workout partner! "It was a full-on boys' gym: 'How much can you press? Go harder!' That kind of thing," she told Women's Health. "They use to have a garbage can between the machines so people could throw up into it and then continue working out. That just seems far too gruesome. I didn't want to be in shape that much."
Beckinsale, who is mom to 12-year-old Lily with ex-partner Michael Sheen, said that she and her Total Recall co-star Jessica Biel throw some serious punches onscreen.
"It's not like a naked, porno, mud-wrestling-in-a-bar sort of fight—it's a real fight," she said. "I did find that fighting a woman was very different from when I've fought men. There was a lot of 'I didn't hurt you, did I? Ooh, I'm sorry about that! No, it was my fault!'"
Despite her tough girl demeanor onscreen, she said she had a lot of training to do when she first started filming the 2003 movie Underworld. "I could run if a bear were chasing me, but I ran like a girl with my arms like this [flails arms]. The day they asked me to try a few punches, it was dismal. All I could see was despair in the stunt coordinator's face."
