The Social Security Administration just released the top baby names in the U.S., taken from all birth certificates in the United States. For the 13th year in a row, Jacob was the most popular boy name. Sophia was the new most popular girl name, taking the place of Isabella.

The top baby names in the Southeast are slightly different than those in the Northeast. For example, the top boy name in Florida is Jayden, with Noah, Elijah and Daniel all in the top 10. The top girl name in Florida is Isabella, however Gabriella, Abigail, Mia and Chloe are also the top contenders.
Baby name trends
On the East Coast, old-fashioned baby names, such as Victoria and Nathaniel, are popular — as are virtue names, such as Serenity and Genesis. We are seeing longer names on the list, however there are quite a few short baby names cropping up on the popular baby name list, including Leo, Zoe and Lily.
On the West Coast, trendy names are popular for girls, including Giselle, Arianna, Daisy and Khloe. The close proximity to Mexico is obvious when looking at the Spanish names that are popular, including Diego, Angel, Miguel and Alejandro.
