SheKnows Spring 2008 movie preview

As the summer movie season inches deeper into spring, the same has happened to the ‘spring' motion picture. Normally a place for the lighter side of cinema, the late-March through the very end of April period now sees its share of major movie stars headlining projects all with the potential to be summer-size hits.

March 14

"Horton Hears a Who"
Jim Carrey and Steve Carell bring the Dr Seuss classic book to life.

"Funny Games"
Naomi Watts, Tim Roth, Michael Pitt form an acting power triple-threat.

Charlize Theron triumphs in this independent film co-starring Dennis Hopper and Nick Stahl in the story of a woman attempting to overcome her mother's abandoning her.

March 21

"Tyler Perry's Meet the Browns"
Angela Bassett and Rick Fox contribute to a cast based on the play by Perry. Watch for Perry to continue his box office dominance with this heart-warming comedy. Unless…

"Drillbit Taylor"
Owen Wilson's return to film may haul in the audiences in the story of a group of nerdy boys who hire Wilson's character as a cheap bodyguard. Judd Apatow from "Knocked Up" and "40 Year Old Virgin" fame produced.

"The Grand"
Woody Harrelson stars in a film by Zak Penn that is a Christopher Guest ("Best in Show") type of improv movie covering the world of professional poker.

March 28

SheKnows talks to star Aaron Yoo"21"
Starring: Kevin Spacey, Laurence Fishburne, Jim Sturgess and Aaron Yoo, "21" is a film based on the blockbuster book "Bringing Down the House." The story of a group of MIT students who head to Las Vegas to count cards has been getting great early buzz. Watch for SheKnows' interview with Yoo March 24.

"Shotgun Stories"
"Shotgun" is the story of two sets of half-brothers who begin a heated feud over the death of their father. The film stars Glenda Pannell and she spoke with SheKnows this week, watch for her story March 17.

"Chapter 27"
Jared Leto gained so much weight for his portrayal of John Lennon assassin Mark David Chapman that the actor came down with gout. The story centers on the mindset of the killer before killing one of the most beloved artists in the world. Lindsay Lohan co-stars.

Otherwise known as the film where co-stars Ryan Phillippe and Abbie Cornish became an item and ended Phillippe's marriage to Reese Witherspoon.

"Superhero Movie"

April 4

"Nim's Island"
Jodie Foster and "Little Miss Sunshine" Abigail Breslin take on an adventure in a family-friendly soon-to-be classic.

Jodie leads us on an adventure"Leatherheads"
George Clooney directs himself and "The Office" star John Krasinski and Renee Zellweger in a comic ode to the infancy of professional football.

"Shine A Light"
Rolling Stones live plus Martin Scorsese directing equals musical cinematic mastery.

April 11

"Smart People" – SheKnows Access*

"Forgetting Sarah Marshall"
Funnyman Judd Apatow (Knocked Up) produced this film about a guy who loses his girl and then lands on the same island as her as he is trying to get over her while on his own vacation. Kristen Bell plays the girl, Jason Segel is the guy and Mila Kunis is also along for the ride.

April 25

Tina and Amy, together again"The Tourist"
Michelle Williams first on-screen role since the death of Heath Ledger finds her starring with Ewan McGregor and Hugh Jackman in this tale of the seedy world of Manhattan sex clubs.

"Baby Mama"
Tina Fey and Amy Poehler re-team in this comedy about surrogate pregnancy. Fey plays a New York executive who recruits a woman (Poehler) to have her baby and hilarity ensues. Greg Kinnear and Sigourney Weaver also star.

"Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay"
Don't you hate it when you're traveling and try to bring a bong back from your vacation? Such is the premise of this stoner duo's return to the big screen. Suspecting that the aforementioned device is a threat to national security, the boys land in the notorious Cuban housed American-run prison.

"Then She Found Me"

Helen Hunt's directorial debut showcases her passion for deep stories in this tale that co-stars Bette Midler and everybody's favorite Mr Darcy – Colin Firth.
