Pokémon Day is February 27 — & There’s a Ton of Pokémon Merch on Sale to Celebrate

Let’s throw it back to 1996: “Macarena” topped the charts, we were tuning in to new episodes of E.R., Friends, and Seinfeld, and people were still saying “Psych!” And across the world in Japan, another cultural icon was being born … Pokémon!

Created by Satoshi Tajiri and featuring fictional creatures called — you guessed it — Pokémon (which stands for “Pocket Monster”), the franchise began as a pair of video games for the Nintendo Game Boy. From there, Pokémon blew up, expanding into television and film series, books, comics, toys, and the Pokémon trading card game we know today, which is the highest-selling trading card game of all time.

As the mom of a Pokémon-obsessed kiddo, I know (because I’m reminded at least twice a week lately) that Pokémon Day is coming up on Feb. 27: a special day designated to commemorate the launch of the first Pokémon way back in ’96. There’s no shortage of ways to celebrate, since Pokémon merch literally runs the gamut from waffle makers to Band-Aids. But as parents, we all know what our favorite way to celebrate is … finding a good sale, of course!

If your Pokémon-loving offspring is constantly asking for stuff from their favorite franchise, now is a great time to snag some for a little less than usual! Your kid — and your wallet — will both be happy.

You can bring a little pop culture to your plate with this offically-licensed waffle maker which, according to the manufacturer, can also be used to make eggs, brownies, cakes, quesadillas or as a sandwich press.
