Amanda Gorman Basically Just Launched Her 2036 Presidential Run on Ellen

Amanda Gorman, the 22-year-old who stole the show at President Joe Biden’s inauguration, confirmed her own plans for the highest office in the land on Tuesday. During her virtual interview on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Gorman confirmed that she is absolutely serious about her aspirations to hold office, and it’s something her family has done nothing but encourage since she was young.

“This is a dream that I think came into existence around sixth grade,” Gorman told DeGeneres of someday becoming the poet POTUS. Her math teacher made a joke about her future presidential run, noting the girl’s passion and feisty attitude. “I was like, you know what? That tracks. Let’s put that on the bulletin board for the future.”

As a note to those of us thinking we might want to raise our own young future presidential poets, she described the encouragement she got at home for her ambition.

“It’s something that my family takes very seriously, because they know when I say something, I mean business,” she said.

She also shared an adorable story about how her twin sister jokingly wouldn’t allow people to post photos of her on social media that could someday hurt her sister’s campaign in a few decades. So, wow, that’s two daughters with better heads on their shoulders than we ever had at their age.

Just don’t start ordering yard signs yet; she’s still 13 years away from the eligibility requirement. Yes, we did the math because she’s got our vote already. The young poet has quickly earned a loyal following of fans (including the Obamas)  since reading “The Hill We Climb” at the inauguration, and she has already signed with IMG Models and become a best selling author, so it’s unlikely we’ll have to wait until 2036 to catch another glimpse of her.

Meanwhile, she earned her first A-list endorsement live on Ellen’s show.

“I want to be one of the first to give you my official endorsement,” DeGeneres said as a staffer brought out a basket filled with 2036 buttons and shirts. “We’re behind you 100 percent.”

We’re also behind you 100 percent, Amanda, and would love to know how the rest of us can get our hands on some of that Gorman swag. In the meantime, we can order her upcoming book for our kids.
