Effective Lactation Teas to Help You Increase Milk Production

Breastfeeding is one of the most fraught and frustrating topics of new motherhood. It’s easy to become fixated on it.  Maybe you’ve had trouble producing milk from the outset or you had a few really productive weeks and now have very little to give. Whatever the case, you could be having problems producing enough milk for your baby. You don’t know why and have probably exhausted Google looking for answers as to why this is happening and for solution. Lactation tea could be your solution to increasing milk production. But if you’re interested in trying this milk-boosting tea, you should first talk to your doctor or lactation consultant to make sure that it’s safe for you specifically. Every woman is different.

Lactation tea is primarily made with galactagogues, a group of herbs that are purported to stimulate milk production. These herbs have been used for centuries, but there hasn’t been many scientific studies to declare how well they work. Galactagogues include fenugreek, blessed thistle, milk thistle and fennel. The herbs are packaged in tea bags. You can drink them hot or iced, depending on your preference. It varies tea to tea, but lactation teas are usually drunk one to three times a day. Make sure to read your packet for instructions.

We rounded up the best lactation teas for new moms. All of our picks are natural and don’t contain GMOs or caffeine.
