We were already pretty obsessed with Jenna Dewan’s new baby, Callum Michael Rebel Kazee (and not JUST because his name basically means Humble Peace Rebel c’monnn), but the recent details of his birth that Dewan just shared with People this week really cinched the deal for us. Namely, the fact that little Callum had his own special theme music playing during the moments when he first entered the world. Now if that’s not a rock star entrance, we don’t know what is.
It wasn’t quite trumpets or electric guitar though; Dewan told the publication that she pushed Callum out to the soothing notes of the Sanskrit song “The Devi Prayer.”
“It’s a very peaceful song,” Dewan explained to People. “It always puts me at ease. I put that on our playlist and I said to Steve [Kazee, Dewan’s fiancé and Callum’s dad], ‘If I ever start to look like I’m getting anxious or if I was having a rough time, just please play that.’”
So, during that stressful pushing portion of childbirth that plenty of us mothers dread, that’s exactly what Kazee did, and Callum was “actually born to that song,” Dewan added.
Dewan does sound pretty chill about the whole birthing process, considering. But it makes sense, since she’s been through it before; Dewan shares 6-year-old daughter Everly (who is currently having a grand old time in quarantine, might we add) with her ex-husband Channing Tatum.
“I’d heard this from a lot of people, that there’s something that happens with the second baby, that there’s a little bit more calm and peace in knowing what’s happening,” she says. “Knowing what’s coming down the line, you are able to be a little more present and enjoy all of it and it’s so true.”
Maybe some of that was reflected in Callum’s peaceful-dove name meaning, perhaps?
Dewan also told the publication that it was “incredible” to give birth alongside Kazee: “The awe in his eyes of experiencing birth for the very first time, and the first time he laid eyes on our son… He was crying the whole time and he cut the umbilical cord. Seeing his transformation of becoming a dad was one of the best things I’ve ever witnessed. It was beautiful. Birth is such a bonding experience, you’re transformed at the end of it.”
And if you can add a Sanskirt song soundtrack to that transformation? Hey, more power to you.
Jenna Dewan and Channing Tatum are just a couple of our favorite celebrities who get co-parenting right.
