While Kim Kardashian’s been promoting her KKW Beauty makeup line in advance of the holidays, she’s also been in what she told E! News is a “big fight” with husband Kanye West over whether to let daughter North, 6, wear makeup — and it appears the anti-lipstick rapper has won.
“North is trying to get in on the makeup but she’s being blocked heavily because her dad has stopped all makeup for her until she is a teenager,” Kim told E! News this week while promoting her product in Ulta Beauty stores. “It’s a big discussion, a big fight in the household right now, but it is what’s best.”
In the past, North dabbled in red lipstick, as seen in the family’s Christmas photos last December. And this past March, she wore blackened lips to a family Sunday religious service. As per usual, Kim received plenty of mom-shaming each time. We, for one, can’t get behind why people care quite so much about someone else’s kid’s self-expression with makeup? Pretty sure there are actual things to worry about in the world. But that’s just us.
Last September, Kim Kardashian West posted on Instagram in response to the constant takedowns: “North wearing shade #5 in the new Classic Blossom Collection. Relax Mom Shamers it’s coming off in a few mins. I needed a bribe to get out of the door…you feel me?!?!?!”
But now, it looks like the only “shade” is being thrown from close range, since Kanye has declared that North can’t wear makeup until she’s a teenager.
Makeup isn’t the only form of expression West is shutting down in his household; earlier this week, he told Zane Lowe for Apple Music Beats 1, “I don’t think North should wear crop tops just because I had her wearing a slip dress when she was 2 years old. I think and feel differently now, now that I’m Christian, now that I’m founder of a three billion dollar organization and married for five years.”
Um, wait a second Kanye. Your business status and religion are somehow giving you permission to censor (and, TBH, it sounds like unnecessarily sexualize) your 6-year-old daughter?
Can Kanye just lay off for a bit?
And on an episode of Keeping up with the Kardashians earlier this month, he criticized his supermodel wife for wearing a dress that was “too sexy” at the Met Gala in spring. “You are my wife and it affects me when pictures are too sexy,” he said.
The pair have four children together: North, 6, Saint, 3, Chicago, 1, and Psalm, five months.
However, as we mentioned earlier this week, Kim says they’re done having children.
But hey, at least when they get older, there won’t be as many of them to share beauty products — if they’re ever allowed to use them, that is. Sigh.
