Meghan Markle Leans on Mom Doria Ragland for “Big Help” With Baby Archie

Royals: They really are just like us. The former Meghan Markle, now Duchess of Sussex, is getting help with her new baby from someone who’s been there, done that — her own mother. Grandma Doria Ragland has been a “big help” to the new parents, according to US Weekly.

The royals welcomed their first child, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, on May 6 of this year — and since then, Ragland has been a strong presence in their lives. The pair are raising the baby in the countryside Frogmore Cottage home, away from the hustle and bustle of Kensington Palace. There was speculation that Ragland would make a move across the pond from her home in Los Angeles to live with the Royals in England. For now, though, it seems that she’s merely been a frequent visitor, helping her daughter and son-in-law through all the “firsts” they’re experiencing as parents.

It’s likely an exciting time for Grandma Doria as well, as babies Archie’s age begin to enjoy lots of tummy time, finger- and fist-sucking, and of course sleeping on and off most of the day. Two-month-old babies also begin to respond to familiar voices, and there’s no doubt that Ragland loves being heard by her grandson.

In April, Ragland flew from Los Angeles to London so she could be present for Baby Sussex’s birth (he is her first grandchild, after all) and has been around for her daughter and her new family in the days that followed. With the help of her mom, Meghan has been adjusting well to motherhood, taking things one step at a time, including setting her own timeline for any postpartum body changes. She and Prince Harry recently stepped out for the premiere of The Lion King together, and she was still glowing.

This evening, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex attended #TheLionKing European premiere in London at the Odeon Theatre. In celebration of the film’s release, The Walt Disney Company announced #ProtectThePride, a global conservation campaign to support efforts protecting the rapidly diminishing lion population across Africa. As a part of their commitment to this cause, Disney also made a donation to The Duke of Sussex’s upcoming environment & community initiative which will be formally announced this autumn. The Duke and Duchess are committed to advancing conservation efforts across Africa and around the world, and working with communities to ensure a sustainable future for the planet. This evening Their Royal Highnesses had the pleasure of meeting the cast and creative team behind the film, as well as supporters of @africanparksnetwork, of which The Duke is President. It’s no doubt important for Meghan to have her mother in her corner, especially given her seemingly rocky relationship with her father. In fact, Doria Ragland was the only member of Meghan’s family present at the royal wedding — and she has since been welcomed by the royal family, so it’s no surprise to see her continued involvement with the new family of three.

No matter where grandma lives, it’s clear that Meghan and her mom are extremely close — and with 10 bedrooms to choose from at Frogmore, there will certainly always be a place for Archie’s granny to lay her head.
