Ooh, serious tea! The world is now wondering if tennis icon Serena Williams revealed the sex of Baby Sussex just now. It’s common knowledge that Williams and the very pregnant Duchess Meghan (nee Markle) are close friends. In fact, Williams was one of the co-hosts (along with Amal Clooney) of Meghan’s big NYC $80,000 baby shower at the Mark Hotel. So when Williams mentioned her “friend” having a baby “she” in an interview with E! News, you can bet bookies in England sat up and paid attention. (Um, so did we.)
During the interview with E!, Williams was asked if she had some good advice for fellow parents. The mom of one said, “Accept mistakes and don’t expect to be perfect. We put so much pressure on ourselves.”
Williams then said, unprompted, “My friend is pregnant, and she was like, ‘My kid’s gonna do this,’ [and] I just looked at her like, ‘No, she’s not. No, you’re not. She was like, ‘I need to talk to you about tips,’ because yes, I had all those high expectations.”
See what you think. Was this a slip, or just a random “she”?
Was Williams referring to Meghan? And was that “No, she’s not” a sign that there is, in fact, a baby girl on the way for Prince Harry and his wife?
Duchess Meghan had previously told the press she and Prince Harry did not know the biological sex of the child and were hoping for it to be a surprise. Hmmmmm.
Williams also told E! that she thinks Markle will rock the mom gig, no matter what the sex of the baby. “She’ll be the best mom, for sure,” Williams said.
Whatever the case, bookies are taking the “she” pronoun seriously — and have slashed the odds on baby girl bets:
