Khloé Kardashian Shamed for Leaving Baby True With... True's Dad?!
It seems moms can never win: We're shamed for breastfeeding our babies, for formula-feeding our babies and for all manner of other things. In our culture, moms are damned if they do and damned if they don’t — and celebrity moms are no exception. In fact, celebs often take the bulk of the visible criticism because they're raising their children in the spotlight. This week, it was Khloé Kardashian’s turn to be shamed — because she left her baby daughter at home… with the baby's father. (The horror!)
Kardashian, who gave birth to her first child, True Thompson, in April, was bashed for going to a charity poker event while her daughter’s father, Tristan Thompson, stayed home. You know, something normal parents do.
Of course, Kardashian is just one woman in a long line of the absurdly mom-shamed. In recent weeks, Victoria Beckham caught heat because people think her 19-year-old son Brooklyn has too many tattoos; a few weeks ago Kardashian's sister, Kourtney Kardashian, was shamed for posting a photo of herself in a bikini (the critics implied that Kourtney was too busy taking pics to be caring for her kids, who were in fact taking the photo itself).
On Sunday evening, Khloé Kardashian explained herself on Twitter: “Mommy shamers r at a high right now. I'm sick, at a charity event & I'm getting slack 4being here bc I have a baby? Her dad is watching her while I'm trying 2bring awareness 2an amazing organization. But either way, what's wrong w a new mom letting daddy take over 4a few hours?”
Kardashian attended the If Only Texas hold ’em tournament alongside her mother, Kris Jenner, and her sisters Kim Kardashian West and Kendall Jenner. The event, which was the first of its kind, was benefitting the City of Hope — a cancer treatment and research center in Southern California.
Just a few weeks ago, Kardashian opened up about having to leave True for the first time to return to work and, in a series of Snaps, she explained that the impending time away was making her very anxious. “Tomorrow is my first day back work… [and] I’m very anxious. I don’t know how I’m going to leave her all day.”
Does that sound like a neglectful mom to you? Sub-question: Would people be freaking out about a dad leaving his baby with the kid's mom? We think not. So pipe down, please.
