Vanessa Lachey revealed on this week’s Dancing with the Stars that her third child with husband Nick Lachey was born a frightening 10 weeks earlier than his due date — an event she said changed her forever.
Monday night was Dancing with the Stars‘ “Most Memorable Year” episode, with contestants recounting the stories behind the night’s dances. This could have also been titled the “Most Tear-Filled Episode” episode.
“I was in the hospital on bed rest and then my water broke. I was only 29 weeks,” Vanessa Lachey told her dance partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy. “I was on the operating bed and I looked up and I didn’t know a single face and I remembered thinking, I hope the baby’s OK and don’t worry about me. Just make him OK.”
Fortunately, the baby and Lachey were very much OK despite the emergency surgery. The Lacheys named their early arriver Phoenix Robert. He joined brother Camden, 5, and sister Brooklyn, 2. Lachey posted this ridiculously sweet first Instagram pic on Dec. 26 announcing his birth.
Chmerkovskiy and Lachey performed a poignant rumba to a song sung by her husband, Nick Lachey. In tears, Vanessa Lachey said of the music, “This song got us through some really tough times and helped us bond even closer as a family.”
Lachey clearly loves being a mom and often posts pics of the entire Lachey family. This Mother’s Day, she posted a particularly cute photo with the caption, “I remember my first Mother’s Day with each of my babies! This one is extra special (for so many reasons)! Phoenix literally completes me… and US! It’s amazing how much more Love you find in your heart for your family as it grows. Let me be the first to tell you Mama’s who want more kids… it keeps getting BETTER!”
She added, “I Love You Camden John. I Love You Brooklyn Elisabeth. I Love You Phoenix Robert. And I’m so grateful for you @nicklachey (and of course I Love You, too!) Happy Mother’s Day to all the Mama’s [sic] out there! Your unconditional Love is magic!”
Misuse of apostrophes aside, you’ve got to love this lady. We’re thrilled that she and kiddo emerged from such a trying birth stronger — and we bet the Lacheys have pretty great parenting advice for their dance partners Peta Murgatroyd and Maksim Chmerkovskiy, who had their first child together this year.
