At Long Last, Serena Williams' Baby Daughter Is Here
Game, set, match. That's right, folks. We can all stop holding our breath and can now waltz into our long weekends in victory and happiness, because Serena Williams is a mom.
Of course, many mothers who undergo pregnancy feel like parenthood begins as soon as the alien fetus takes over your body and starts wreaking havoc on your every waking moment, craving and sleep cycle. But hey, Williams has finally made it to the payoff: A source confirmed to US Weekly that the tennis star — and SheKnows BlogHer keynote speaker — has welcomed her first child, a daughter, with fiancé Alexis Ohanian.
Because waiting to go into labor on Labor Day would just provide too many awful puns for us journalists to jump on, Williams gave birth Friday, Sept.1, in Palm Beach, Florida.
Williams, who expressed some mom-to-be nerves in Vanity Fair earlier this year (“I don’t know what to do with a baby!" she told the magazine) accidentally announced her pregnancy on Snapchat back in April. Since then, she and Ohanian have shared their experiences with swaddle-training and obnoxiously healthy pregnancy cravings alike. Sounds like the pair has come a long way from those early-preggo clueless days; this little gal was born to some seriously prepared parents.
No news yet on what the baby will be called, but with snazzy names like Serena and Alexis — as well as dear auntie Venus — in the fam, we're guessing it won't be "Jane." Although I suppose you never know; grandma names are indeed making a comeback.
