Mila Kunis vetoed Ashton Kutcher’s name for their son, and we don’t blame her

Ashton Kutcher has revealed his top baby name choice for his son — and it’s definitely not one we’re going to see at the top of the charts any time soon.

During an appearance on Conan, Kutcher told host Conan O’Brien that he wanted to name his son Hawkeye. Yes, that’s right: Hawkeye. “There was a rallying cry from a collective that believed in the name Hawkeye,” Kutcher insisted.

What comes to mind when we hear “Hawkeye” besides a bird of prey? Well, there’s the fictional Marvel superhero in the Avengers franchise who is an exceptional fencer, acrobat and marksman. However, he wasn’t actually Kutcher’s inspiration for the name. The actor, who is already dad to 2-year-old daughter Wyatt Isabelle with wife Mila Kunis, had another fictional character in mind: Benjamin “Hawkeye” Pierce, who was played by Alan Alda in M*A*S*H*, a popular 1970s Korean War mobile army surgical hospital dramedy.

“A kid named Hawkeye, it could be M*A*S*H*-y, like he could be a doctor,” joked Kutcher.

Sadly, Hawkeye Kutcher didn’t get one person’s seal of approval — and a pretty important person at that. “Hawkeye Kutcher, it didn’t fly, it didn’t cross the Mila threshold, it came to the threshold but it got knocked out,” admitted Kutcher.

The baby name the couple has agreed on for their son is still under wraps, although some people have been let in on the secret. In October while co-hosting Live!, Kutcher whispered the official name to Kelly Ripa. And the TV host was quick to give her approval, describing it as “established.”

Kunis is expected to give birth in the next few weeks, meaning Kutcher still has time to work on her. But we don’t think we’ll be placing any bets on them introducing baby Hawkeye to the world.
