American Idol star's new baby name will brighten up your day
It's a baby boy for American Idol alum Brooke White! The 33-year-old and her husband, Dave Ray, welcomed their son, a little brother for 4-year-old daughter London, on Sept. 3.
White shared the news with fans via Instagram, posting a cute picture of the happy parents with little "butterball" Sonny John Ray.
There's something about the name Sonny that just makes us smile. A boy nickname name (for "son"), it's been on the U.S. top 1,000 list since 1927, reaching a high in 1975 when it hit No. 428 (possibly thanks to '60s and '70s pop duo Sonny and Cher). Several celebrities have adopted Sonny instead of their formal birth name, but recently it has been used as a name in its own right. Stars who've chosen Sonny for their sons include actor Jason Lee, Green Day guitarist Jason White, British musician Noel Gallagher, actress Soleil Moon Frye and Ronnie Wood's daughter, Leah Wood.
White — one half of indie pop duo Jack and White — revealed her second pregnancy in February and also opened up about going through IVF after experiencing secondary infertility. Describing IVF as "downright crazy," she said she had been "a hormonal mess" for months but that it was all worth it when the fertility treatment finally worked.
According to the National Survey of Family Growth, over 1 million couples experience secondary infertility (when a couple is unable to conceive despite having had at least one child in the past, either together or with a previous partner). Endometriosis is one of the most common causes of secondary infertility in women. Others include irregular ovulation, fallopian tube disease, scarring after childbirth and a decline in the concentration or motility of the man's sperm. Stress may also be a factor, as it can affect ovulation and sperm production.
Little Sonny's arrival is all the more special because of the struggles his parents have gone through to have him. Huge congratulations to the family of four!
