NCIS star gives his new baby a Twilight-inspired name
Congratulations to NCIS star Eric Christian Olsen and his wife, actress Sarah Wright Olsen, who are now a family of four. The couple welcomed their second child, a daughter, on Aug. 9 — little sister to son Wyatt, 2.
The proud mom and dad both shared adorable pictures on their Instagram accounts of little Esmé Olivia Olsen. Sarah captioned a snapshot of her husband and their two children with "love and joy don’t do justice to what I feel when I look at these three."
Eric shared a black-and-white photo of him holding his baby daughter, alongside a heartfelt tribute to his wife. "I remember reading that how you approach birth is intimately connected with how you approach life, and after watching Sarah go through the process twice it's undeniably true," he wrote. "Birth is like a whirlwind microcosm of the rest of the journey and I am in awe of this woman; somehow navigating the most difficult moments with equal parts passion, fearlessness, and all encompassing love. I suspect she may be magic."
Esmé is a French baby girl name meaning "esteemed, beloved" and "emerald." Fans of J.D. Salinger will know it from his classic 1950 love story For Esmé — with Love and Squalor, but in recent years its popularity may be due to the vampire matriarch Esme Cullen in The Twilight Saga.
Esmé (which may also be spelled without the accent but is pronounced the same way — "ez-may") is a very popular name in England and Scotland, but it ranked only 682nd in the U.S. baby girl name chart in 2015. Other celebrity parents who chose Esmé for their babies include Samantha Morton, Michael J. Fox and Katey Sagal.
We don't know for sure that the Olsens are Twilight fans, but whatever their inspiration, their new baby name is a cracker.
