Courtney Stodden's pregnancy comes at a difficult time for the reality star
Reality TV star Courtney Stodden has been through so much in the last five years it’s hard to believe she’s still only 21. The next stage in her life is going to be a big one: She’s just announced she’s pregnant with her first child with husband Doug Hutchison.
It should be happy news for the couple who’ve never been too far from controversy since they got married in 2011 when Stodden was only 16 years old and Hutchison was 50. But it seems they have a lot of other stuff going on as well.
"It's a bittersweet time for me right now. I'm dealing with a lot of stress and emotions surrounding life and its ups and downs," Stodden, 21, told Us Weekly. "Doug and I weren't planning on going public with this so soon. I'm only four weeks along in my pregnancy. But some things are out of your control."
Stodden and Hutchison appeared on VH1's Couples Therapy in 2012 and briefly split up in 2013 before getting back together less than a year later. Stodden recently revealed they plan to renew their vows on their fifth wedding anniversary on June 21.
"Our relationship right now is really, really good," she said. "We're really strong and we're very happy. We're getting ready to celebrate our fifth wedding anniversary and we're absolutely going to renew our vows for our fifth wedding anniversary. So, yeah, we're doing really, really well!"
However, it was only two months ago that Stodden suggested the couple may not be quite ready to start a family. "Oh boy! I don't know if we're ready for a baby right now," she said. "We have two little fur babies, so those are kind of our babies right now. But, you never know!"
When she appeared on Lifetime's The Mother/Daughter Experiment: Celebrity Edition, Stodden argued with her mother Krista Keller and accused Keller of having an "emotional affair" with Hutchison and flirting with her previous boyfriends. Months after the reality show finished shooting, their relationship appears to still be broken. "It still hurts," said Stodden. "All of the drama is still there. There’s a lot of toxic energy in that relationship that I have with my mom."
All moms need support when they go through pregnancy and after Baby is born. Let's hope Stodden's husband and her mother are there for her and that she can turn this "bittersweet" news into brilliant news.
