Eddie Murphy went straight for the nicknames for his new baby
Funny guy Eddie Murphy has got plenty of reasons to smile, but according to his rep, on Tuesday he added to that list. Murphy's longtime girlfriend, Paige Butcher reportedly gave birth to the couple's first child together, a daughter weighting in at 7 pounds, 15 ounces named Izzy Oona (what a fun name, right?!).
Little Izzy is the ninth child for Murphy, but the first with his longtime love. Not counting his newest addition, Murphy, who is 55, has got children from previous marriages and relationships ranging in age from 13 to 26.
Though Murphy and Butcher typically stay out of the spotlight, shying away from social media completely, their little girl's name is right on trend. Nicknames as baby names are hot -- from Drew Barrymore's Frankie to Zooey Deschanel's Elsie. And, of course, it falls right in line with gender-neutral baby names that many other celebrities have also opted for.
Murphy follows suit with a slew of other celebrities who have opted to ignore the traditional gender assignments of many names. Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds named their little girl James, Dax Shepard and Kristen Bell named their first daughter Lincoln in 2013 and Jessica Simpson's daughter is named Maxwell. Unisex baby names have increased in popularity in recent years, especially among celebrity parents, proving that some rules are most definitely meant to be broken.
Murphy and Butcher have been together for several years now, and during that time Murphy has made very few public appearances. It's likely that that's not going to change any time soon since he's got a new baby girl on his hands to spoil, but we're keeping our fingers crossed that we'll get a glimpse of little Izzy at some point in the near future.
A big congratulations to the new parents!
