Kellie Martin sneaks a gender twist into baby girl's name
Life Goes On alum Kellie Martin just welcomed her second daughter and shared an adorable photo of her newborn baby. The actress gave her daughter a baby name with a surprising gender twist that Blake Lively would totally approve of.
Martin announced the arrival of her baby girl by sharing this sweet snapshot of her 9-year-old daughter, Margaret Heather, checking out her new sister. Weighing in at 7 pounds, 15 ounces and measuring 20 inches in length, the baby girl was born on Feb. 13, with Martin tweeting that she was several days overdue.
The 40-year-old actress and her husband, Keith Christian, named their daughter the trendy name of Olivia James Christian.
James is the hottest name for celebrity parents this year. Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher may have started the gender-twisting name trend when they named their daughter Wyatt, however the popularity of boy names for girls really caught steam when Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds named their daughter James.
Since then, the gender-bending name trend is showing no signs of slowing down. In addition to Martin choosing the middle name of James for her daughter, Kristin Cavallari named her daughter Saylor James, Jennifer Love Hewitt named her daughter Autumn James, and model Coco Rocha named her daughter Ioni James.
The ER alum balanced out her daughter’s masculine middle name with the feminine name of Olivia, which is a Spanish name meaning "olive." According to the Social Security Administration’s list of top baby names, Olivia is currently the second most popular girl name here in the United States, with Emma nabbing the top spot and Sophia landing in the third-place spot.
Several other celebrities have also chosen the sweet name of Olivia for their daughters, including James Van Der Beek, Eddie Vedder, Colin Hanks and Wanda Sykes.
Martin announced her pregnancy when she was five months along and had fun showing off her growing baby bump — reassuring her fans that, “Yes, there is only one baby in there,” after showing off her bump in a formfitting dress at the Hallmark Channel TCA party.
Martin also shared a photo of herself in a cute romper and joked that this “pregnancy won’t end.”
As her pregnancy reached over 40 weeks, she tweeted about her pregnancy cravings, including Doritos and Girl Scout Cookies, before Olivia James made her arrival this week.
Congratulations to the family!
