Chrissy Teigen takes costly measures to avoid stretch marks
Model Chrissy Teigen is known for her sharp humor and brutal honesty, so of course she's shared that same charisma with us throughout her pregnancy. Though she's typically one of the most relatable celebrities in the business, her stretch mark routine has got us seeing dollar signs.
Ah, celebrities — they're just like us! Well, not really, but Teigen has wooed us with her snarky sarcasm and lovable charm. She's an open book, sharing with her fans everything from her stretch marks to her struggles with infertility.
Now that she's almost six months into her pregnancy, the wife of singer John Legend has admitted that her stretch mark routine comes at a price. Teigen is one of the faces of La Mer, a line of luxury skin care products, so she's got access to the creams and lotions she says are "liquid gold." She told Cosmopolitan that she slathers their products (that cost $340 an ounce) onto her belly for 15 to 20 minutes every single day.
She admits that the product comes in a tiny bottle and that it's definitely not meant for an entire belly, but since she's got stretch marks already (she states that she uses it only on her belly and face because the stretch marks on her thighs and butt are too far gone), she wanted to be proactive. Teigen also stated that if she didn't have such a good relationship with La Mer, even she (you know, the supermodel married to the Grammy winner?) probably couldn't afford her luxurious routine.
You've got to love her honesty. Sure, her stretch mark routine is out of reach for most of us, but the fact that she's admitting that not only does she already have them, but she's concerned enough about them that she's paying up big time makes the rest of us feel a little less vain in our efforts to avoid the infamous tiger stripes of motherhood.
Of course, it's depressing that we live in a world that devalues women based on appearance alone. But Teigen is a model — her job is to be flawless — so her concern is understandable. And we love her for opening up and admitting that this is something moms deal with.
She's definitely not alone in wanting to prevent these little lines from showing up. Just like the rest of us, she's only human, and you can't blame her for attempting to camouflage her "stretchies," as she likes to call them. We're all a little bummed at their first appearance, but it's something that, in time, we learn to live with, especially considering the result of acquiring such marks.
Growing a child is a beautiful thing. Yeah, it's weird and strange and uncomfortable sometimes, but it's beautiful nonetheless. The scars and stretch marks that childbearing brings are evidence of the strength and resilience of a woman's body, and they tell an incredible story. Stretch marks are a perfectly normal and natural part of pregnancy (or life in general, for that matter). The imperfections they leave on our skin are a result of the perfection we grew inside us.
They're a badge of honor that so many women, including the seemingly flawless Chrissy Teigen, wear. Wear them proudly, ladies. And to Chrissy Teigen: Thank you for being human!
