Celebrity baby names have a way of jump-starting naming trends, and 2015 was no exception.
For girls, the royal baby name of Princess Charlotte leads the way. However, gender-bending names like Arlo (Leighton Meester’s daughter) and Charlie continue to surge this year — and let’s not forget Kim Kardashian’s unique baby girl name choice. Saylor (or Sailor) was a top pick for boys and girls both, but many stars picked spiritual boy names for their sons, such as Justin Timberlake’s son Silas and Jessa Duggar’s son Spurgeon. Find out who all made the list of the top celebrity baby names of the year.
Celebrity baby girl names
The hottest celebrity girl names of the year ran the gamut from traditional names to gender-bending names. Beautiful and classic names also surged in popularity thanks in part to one of the most anticipated babies of the year — Her Royal Highness, Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana of Cambridge.
This beautiful name incorporated the name of Prince William’s mother, the late Princess Diana.
Zooey Deschanel gave her daughter the old-fashioned name of Elsie but added a very unique twist with the middle name of Otter. Keira Knightley’s daughter Edie and Cate Blanchett’s baby girl Edith also make the list of pretty, classic names of 2015.
One of the most buzzworthy names of this year is Saylor, as several celebrities picked this name (with various spellings) for both boys and girls. Kristin Cavallari named her daughter Saylor James (which also included the trendy middle name of James), while Liv Tyler named her son this same name with the spelling of Sailor. Pregnant Bristol Palin recently revealed that she is naming her daughter Sailor as well.
The gender-bending baby name trend, started last year thanks to Blake Lively and Mila Kunis, is showing no signs of slowing down. Leighton Meester and Adam Brody named their daughter Arlo Day, while Dave and Odette Annable named their daughter Charlie Mae. Several celebs this year picked James as the middle name, including Kristin Cavallari and Brandon and Leah Jenner with daughter Eva James.
As far as unique girl names, Ashlee Simpson and Evan Ross named their daughter the rock star name of Jagger Snow.
More unique and buzzworthy baby girl names of the year include Lily Cole’s, who named her baby girl Wylde Cole. Coco Austin just welcomed a daughter named Chanel Nicole, and other examples are Jenna Bush’s little Poppy and Kevin James’ daughter, Sistine Sabella.

Spiritual names were also a hot choice for celebrity parents. Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel named their son Silas Randall.
19 Kids and Counting star Jill Duggar also picked a spiritual name with her son Israel David. Her sister, Jessa Duggar, picked a very unique name with Spurgeon Elliot, who was named after a British preacher — although they later revealed that they will call him by his nickname, Quincy.
