Billy Joel and his 33-year-old girlfriend Alexis Roderick have just announced they are expecting their first child together. The Piano Man already has one daughter, 29-year-old Alexa Ray Joel, from his previous marriage to Christie Brinkley.
Joel and Roderick are expecting their first child together sometime “this summer,” however have chosen “to keep any further details of her pregnancy under wraps until their new addition makes an official debut.” Radar Online is reporting that they are expecting a baby girl. “There are lots of family photos with Alexis and her growing belly,” a source revealed, saying that Alexis has been “keeping a low profile” throughout her pregnancy.
Billy’s wife is 33 years old, and just five years older than Alexa, who posted this photo with her dad on her Instagram page.
Let’s do some quick math. The expecting couple met when Alexis was just 29 (the age of Alexa). We’re not being judgy here, but we need to realize that Joel will be about 83 when his new baby enters college. Sure, the mom will only be 51, but if these ages were reversed, we would all be gasping over the idea of a 65-year-old becoming a parent.
We suppose the fact that Joel is amazingly wealthy helps in this situation, because if he has a hard time keeping up with a toddler, the couple can afford the very best childcare. No word on how Alexa feels about getting a new brother or sister since she has yet to comment, but she is either happy her dad has found love again — or feels a little weird about it.
Let’s reverse the roles a bit: If a 65-year-old woman finds herself in a baby state of mind, we are all so quick to judge and condemn her. Give her a few (23) Grammy nominations and suddenly the age of an expectant parent is just no big deal?
