Nate Berkus and his husband welcome a baby girl: See her flowery baby name
Interior designer Nate Berkus and his husband Jeremiah Brent have welcomed their first child, a baby girl. Get all the details on their daughter, including the adorable, flower-inspired baby name.
Celebrity designer (and BFF of Oprah Winfrey) Nate Berkus shared his happy baby news via Facebook.
"Jeremiah & I are thrilled to announce the arrival of our daughter, Poppy Brent-Berkus, born via surrogate on March 23, 2015," Berkus wrote on his Facebook page. "We are so excited to finally be a family of 3! As anyone with a newborn knows, we have our work cut out for us but couldn't be happier to be embarking on this life changing journey that is parenthood. Thank you all for your well wishes and support."
Berkus and Brent, who is also an interior designer, were married in 2014 and announced in September that they were expecting a baby via surrogate. "We have had the most special year and it's JUST become even more beautiful," they gushed at the time.
Poppy is a pretty name of English origin that means "flower." Flower baby names are a hot baby name trend among celebrity parents — and there are actually several other A-listers who picked Poppy for their kids. Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer named one of their twins Poppy, while chef Jamie Oliver named his daughter Poppy Honey Rosie. Actress Jessica Capshaw named her daughter Poppy James.
Berkus, 41, rose to fame after becoming a regular guest on The Oprah Winfrey Show. He later had his own show, The Nate Berkus Show; however, his life took a tragic turn when his partner, photographer Fernando Bengoechea, died when the couple was vacationing in Sri Lanka in 2004 when the tsunami hit.
He has since overcome that tragedy with his husband and his daughter Poppy and, from the sounds of it, they have plans to continue to expand their family.
"I want like a soccer team. Unfortunately, it's not as easy for us like conventional couples as you can imagine. We both want kids. I would have five if I could, but we will probably have two," Brent told E! Online.
