Boy Meets World's Rider Strong welcomes a son: Find out his hippie name
Boy Meets World star Rider Strong is not only all grown up, but he and his wife, Alexandra Barreto, have welcomed their first child together. What do you think of their colorful, hippie-inspired baby name choice?
Strong, who is best known as his character Shawn Hunter on the '90s ABC sitcom Boy Meets World, and his wife managed to keep their pregnancy completely secret. Although the media-shy couple, who married in 2013, have yet to post any pictures of their newborn son who was born on Dec. 28, we did find out the baby's name:
Indigo "Indy" Barreto Strong.
This colorful name, which falls in the rainbow spectrum somewhere between blue and violet, is a unique and hippie-inspired choice for a baby name. It appears that giving color-inspired names is a celebrity baby name trend that is definitely picking up steam. The most well-known example is, of course, Beyoncé and Jay Z, who named their daughter Blue Ivy. Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds just picked the name Violet for their baby girl, while Tobey Maguire has a daughter named Ruby.
Indigo is a unique choice, as the Social Security Administration states that the name is not in the top 1,000 names for any year of birth in the last 100 years.
Indy is a cute nickname and makes us immediately think of Harrison Ford as "Indy" in Indiana Jones, and although the root names are different in this case, the nicknames are the same.
The 35-year-old actor, who has appeared on Girl Meets World, is no stranger to unique names and talked to Vanity Fair about growing up with his "porn name."
"I had hippie parents — that's sort of the shorthand explanation," he said. "If I was going to be a girl, they were going to name me Sierra — so I would have been Sierra Strong. But my dad said, 'That sounds like a stripper name.' But it never occurred to him that Rider Strong was the biggest porn name ever. 'Ride-her-strong' — it sounds like a joke. No one pointed it out to me until I was 15. My father's name is King Arthur Strong."
It sounds like hippie names (and porn star names) run in his family.
