Vanessa Lachey welcomes a baby girl: See her trendy destination name

Vanessa and Nick Lachey welcomed their second child on Tuesday, Jan. 5, and they gave her the cutest, New York-inspired name. Find out the meaning behind her moniker, and see what other celebrities love this travel-inspired baby name trend.

Vanessa Minnillo Lachey announced the birth of her baby girl via Instagram by sharing a sweet photo of her tiny hand.

“She’s HERE!!!! Nick, Camden and I are SO excited to announce the birth of our sweet, beautiful baby girl, Brooklyn Elisabeth Lachey!” Lachey wrote on her website. “She was born January 5th, 2015 at 5:17pm. She weighed in at 7 pounds 15 ounces, is 21 inches long and has already won over all of our hearts.”

Brooklyn joins the couple’s son, Camden, and Lachey wrote on her website that she has “been dreaming of this moment for as long as I can remember, the day I was going to meet my little girl.”

“A friend recently told me how magical today was going to be because it’s the day I would meet my best friend. I can’t even begin to tell you how it felt to hold her in my arms for the very first time. Mommy, Daddy and big brother Cam love you so much already, Brooklyn!” she gushed.

Brooklyn is an English name that means “water” or “stream.” However, it’s also a city in New York. This name has jumped in popularity, with the Social Security Administration ranking it as the 28th most popular baby name. The alternative spelling, Brooklynn, is another trendy choice, coming in at number 142.

The name Brooklyn first garnered attention when Victoria and David Beckham named their son Brooklyn, while actress Brooklyn Decker also helped raise the popularity of the name.

Destination names: A cool new trend

We aren’t surprised destination baby names are an up and coming trend, as they are unique yet easy to spell and pronounce.

These names don’t actually have to be places, as directions are also popular. Kim Kardashian and Kanye West chose a unique direction name for their daughter, North West, which raised quite a few eyebrows. Actress Marley Shelton went the other direction and named her daughter West. Baby names like Easton and Weston are more trendy picks.

Reese Witherspoon picked the Southern-inspired name Tennessee for her son. India is a popular destination name, with Sarah McLachlan, designer Georgina Chapman and Chris Hemsworth all picking it for their daughters.

Here are more celebrity destination names we love:

  • London: Carson Daly
  • Indiana: Ethan Hawke
  • Georgia: Eric Dane and Rebecca Gayheart
  • Paloma: Ana Ortiz
  • Milan: Shakira
  • Memphis: Girls star Jemima Kirke
  • Egypt: Alicia Keys
  • Bronx: Ashlee Simpson
  • Dallas: Fantasia Barrino
  • Kingston: Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale
