Homemade sparkler shields protect little fingers
While sparklers are exciting, their heat can make them dangerous for children. Help kids decorate their own patriotic sparkler shield for safe sparkler fun on the 4th of July.
Keep little hands burn free with this easy sparkler shield craft. All you need is a red plastic cup, a pair of scissors, and some patriotic stickers. Kids can decorate their own shields, and even use letter stickers to add their name.
- Red disposable plastic cup
- Assorted stickers
1. Poke a hole for the sparkler
Adults should help kids with this step. Use the point of the scissors to poke a hole into the end of the cup.
2. Decorate the cup
Kids can add stickers themselves. Letter stickers are great for spelling out their name and the date.
3. Use the shield
For very young kids, parents should help them hold the sparkler inside the shield, to make sure they do not get it too close to their face. Sparklers are not recommended for use by children under age 12 without parental assistance.
If you feel your child is too young to hold the sparkler with assistance, you can also use it as stand for them to watch their sparklers burn from a safe distance.
