In the category of most adorably romantic proposals of all time, Londoner Jason Shoffman has just clinched the prize forever more. When it came time for the 31-year-old to propose to his girlfriend Simone Golumb, Shoffman thought of the thing she loves most — Disney films — and worked off that. The advertising executive invited her to a mock art opening, replete with “Disney” prints he created from real photos of the two lovebirds and surprised the living daylights out of her.
Though this would not be my personal fantasy (I am not the biggest fan of princess movies), what I love about this proposal is that it is hers. After 13 years of marriage, the best marriage advice I could give any couple is that you have to honor one another’s interests. I don’t love basketball. Or pole vaulting. Or reading science non-fiction books. But he does. And so when I see something that pertains to those passions, I pay attention. He does that same for me. That support feels like love and connection. And it’s what sustains a marriage.
This thoughtful proposal highlights their love. His thoughtful execution and attention to the details indicate a long, happy life together. If you can’t smile at that, what can you smile at?
