Never mind the wedding, bring on the honeymoon! After all that fussing and organising, the honeymoon is like a couple's much-needed reward -- a time for relaxing and escaping the duties of real life, where all you need is a bottle of wine and each other's company. Check out our favourite honeymoon destinations.

Honeymoon in Paris

City of Love: Paris

You can hardly get more romantic than the City of Love and Lights for a honeymoon destination. With a truly magical ambience and the perfect playground setting for late-night strolls, and wining and dining, Paris is supremely popular for parties of two. Imagine reaching the top of the Eiffel Tower and looking out over that gorgeous panoramic view together, before popping into a quaint wine bar for some cheese and local French Champagne. You could spend days admiring the Notre Dame and Louvre before retiring to charming candle-lit bistros and enjoying walks along the tree-lined avenues beside the Seine. Splurge on new honeymoon outfits along the Champs Elysees and parade them along the oldest bridge in Paris, the Pont Beuf. Ahh, can we come too?

Italian seaside: Amalfi Coast

The cuisine and language of Italy alone is enough to charm a girl, never mind having her new hubby by her side to share the experience! Italy is packed with romantic destinations like Venice and Verona, but the Amalfi Coast is arguably the most beautiful of them all. This incredible stretch of coastline spans almost 50 kilometres and combines beautiful blue waters with ragged cliffs and quaint Italian villages. Enjoy long walks through vineyards and olive groves, then retire to the luxury of upmarket hotels, restaurants and wine bars for fun evenings as newlyweds.

Local love: The Whitsundays

If you're on a budget and want to avoid flying internationally, keep it local with a homegrown honeymoon destination. While we're spoilt with plenty of beautiful Aussie destinations like the Hunter Valley, Barossa Valley and Byron Bay, the Whitsundays is certainly something special. This wonder is comprised of 74 different islands where idyllic waters lap at golden and white sands. You have the option of taking up the many fun activities on offer like snorkelling and sailing, or simply relaxing with your new husband on the beach or by the pool. Sip on cocktails, feast on fresh produce and chill out in one of the many five-star, kid-free resorts and hotels.

Island getaway: Fiji

If you want to explore a little further beyond our shores but are still dreaming of an island holiday, Fiji may be the perfect spot for you. The relaxed atmosphere, great climate and gorgeous scenery makes Fiji an ideal honeymoon hotspot. There are more than 50 resorts to choose from, which are spread over Fiji's incredible 320 islands. You'll also find plenty of romantic kid-free destinations where you can enjoy peace and quiet in a tranquil setting. Viti Levu and Vanua Levu are the two main islands, or venture further afield for even more privacy. If tropical palms, crystal clear waters and an upbeat vibe are what you and your husband have been dreaming of, Fiji is calling!
