There are merits to just about every gift-giving approach you could take. Shopping directly from someone’s wishlist is efficient. Gifting someone an experience—like a trip, concert or class—is an excellent way to cut down on clutter. And buying someone a luxury item they’ve been reluctant to purchase on their own can be incredibly impactful. But no matter your budget, few presents demonstrate care, thought and effort as effectively as a custom, personalized gift.
The only issue? Personalized gifts really do require care, thought and effort—and they also require foresight. It can take a while to get something embroidered or embossed with your loved one’s name or initials. And it can take even longer to get something hand-crafted in the shape of those same letters. Personalized gifts are impressive not only because they’re tailored to the individual who’s receiving them, but also because they require a ton of planning. They’re not some trinket you picked up at the store last-minute. They’re a deeply thoughtful gift, and one you’ve clearly considered for weeks (or however long it took for them to get created and shipped).
The timeline inherent to any personalized gift may seem daunting. And in some cases, it can be. Some gifts really do require more than a month to come together. But thankfully, some don’t. There are plenty of personalized gifts that don’t call for excessive foresight—just, you know, some foresight. Some ship within a few weeks, and others, within a few days.
So rest assured—there are ways to demonstrate care, thought and effort without totally upending your life during the months preceding the holiday season.
