If you can’t hire an assistant to help you with your gardening tasks, technology could be the answer. A company in Estonia has just released a “smart” flowerpot that does a lot of gardening work for you with electronic precision.

The Click-and-Grow flowerpot is the perfect holiday gift for the brown thumbs in your family. This soil-less pot uses sensors that control the amount of water, fertilizer and anything else you plant needs. The pot uses a combination of hydroponics and aeroponics, and requires occasional refilling of the water reservoir about once a month.

The starter kit contains the flowerpot, four AA batteries and a plant cartridge embedded with flower seeds. Batteries last about eight months, and when the first plant finishes its season, you can swap in another seed cartridge for just under 7 euro ($9). Each cartridge germinates about two weeks after activation and contains software that helps optimize the system for each plant species. Current seed cartridge options include marigolds, nettles, basil, tomatoes and chili peppers. The pot is available through clickandgrow.com for about $80.
