With the summer’s hottest temperatures expected this month, your lawn takes a beating from the July sun. Here’s how to keep your lawn looking great during the summer heat.
When temperatures break into the mid-90s, your lawn will need some help to get through the hot spell and come out looking like a champ.
Summer lawn care tips:
- Set your mower to 3 inches or higher. The additional height will help shade the roots and bottoms of the blades from being scorched.
- Skip a true fertilizer application until August. Instead, recycle nutrients by letting lawn clippings stay in place on the lawn.
- Water early in the morning before the hottest part of the day, so the grass can soak it up before evaporation takes place.
- Water deeply and infrequently. Aim sprinklers so that their spray hits the lawn only; water on the sidewalk or driveway is wasted!
