Vacation destinations you and your pet will enjoy

Who wants to leave their favorite four-legged friend behind when they go on vacation? Not you! And, luckily, you don’t have to. There are plenty of pet-friendly cities in the U.S. that cater to pets and their owners. So plan your vacation to include your pet by visiting one of these pet-friendly vacation destinations.

San Diego

There are a million reasons to love San Diego. The fact that it is so pet-friendly is reason one million and one. The area, of course, lends itself to lots of outdoor fun for you and your pet. One place you must visit with your pet is Dog Beach. Well-behaved dogs are welcome to romp leash-free, and you can even take to the seas in a rented kayak for you and your pet! Many of the area’s outdoor cafes along the beaches as well as in the Gaslamp area are pet friendly, too.

Downtown Austin, Texas is home to 16 pet-friendly hotels so you and Spot are sure to find the one that suits you best. Beyond your accommodations, you and your pet can take in the sites at the Zilker Botanical Garden (don’t forget his leash!), and take a hike or toss a Frisbee at Austin’s most popular dog park, Bull Creek.

San Francisco

Tip: Don’t miss the San Francisco Giants’ Dog Days of Summer, held in August, where dogs can accompany their owners to a ballgame at AT&T Park and enjoy a pre-game dog parade.

You won’t have any trouble finding a pet-friendly hotel or resort in the Bay Area — the city is rife them! There is also a laundry list of leash-free parks that cater to pets as well as shops like Macy’s, Bloomingdale’s and Neiman Marcus that allow pets to accompany their owners on a shopping spree. Book a private tour — of the city or a surrounding winery — with Extranomical Tours, where dogs are welcome without additional charge.

Plan to stay at Boston’s luxurious Nine Zero Hotel with your pet for true pampering for the both of you. If you’re planning to explore the city via subway, don’t worry about leaving Fido behind – dogs are allowed to ride the transport system in Boston. They are also welcome to traverse the Freedom Trail, which will take you and your pooch on a tour of 16 historic sites around the city. After all that walking, you and your pet are welcome at many of the city’s sidewalk cafes.

Enjoy a stay in Phoenix, where many of the finest resorts, shops and restaurants not only allow dogs but cater to them. The Phoenician Resort, one of the area’s five-star resorts, recently launched Canyon Suites, which offers a personalized and completely pampering experience for your pooch. Think canine massage, nighttime tuck-in service, and welcome amenity including a treat and an eco-friendly toy as well as a room service menu fit for a king.

You never even have to leave the grounds, but if you venture out, head to Scottsdale’s Mackie’s Parlour to pamper your pooch with luxe pet beds, apparel and more. And if you get hungry for a sweet snack while you’re out and about, stop at Yogurtology, where you can customize your fro-yo and your dog can enjoy a special dog-friendly treat, too.
