To start the week with a fresh look, you might need to remove traces of your faded faux tan. Create your own DIY self-tanner remover to help. It’s easy with just some lemon juice and raw sugar!

Before applying the mixture to your body, first test it on your inner arm, where you skin is more sensitive, to help ensure you can tolerate the ingredients. Make sure your arm is slightly wet first.

This recipe makes enough for your whole body. Apply it to damp skin. If you’re using this in the shower, take care not to slip, and rinse any remaining sugar and juice from the bottom of your tub or shower when you’re finished.


  • 1 cup raw sugar
  • 3/4 cup lemon juice


  1. Combine the two ingredients in a plastic bowl. Remove any lemon seeds or large pieces of pulp. Mix together.
  2. Use the mixture on damp skin before showering or bathing. Scoop the mixture from the bowl with a plastic spoon (be sure to stir the mixture from the bottom where most of the sugar will settle).
  3. Use your hands to gently rub the mixture over the areas of your body where you want to remove the self-tanner. Don’t rub the mix too vigorously, as the sugar may be a bit abrasive on your skin.
  4. Allow the mixture to remain on your skin for a minute or so before rinsing it with warm water.

Scrub up for a fresh start!
