A pumpkin carving alternative: Painted pumpkins

Carving pumpkins is a Halloween tradition that most children and families look forward to each year. There are some downfalls associated with the activity. Put the knives away and paint your pumpkins this year. Let your creativity run wild, the options are endless!

Painted pumpkins

Painting pumpkins is a fun alternative to carving them. In addition to being less messy, there are some other benefits as well. If you have small children, painting pumpkins is an activity they can do without your help. Even older children can have a hard time carving pumpkins, and the sharp tools can become a safety concern. With paint you won’t have to worry about any missing fingers! In addition, you can paint your pumpkins much earlier and display them throughout the month. Carved pumpkins only last a few days before they start to rot and shrivel up.

If you don’t have children and you want to have a more elegant Halloween display, painting pumpkins allows you to match your pumpkins to your other decor. Spray-painted pumpkins could make an elegant centerpiece for Thanksgiving, a wedding or any other fall party. Grab your paint and a little imagination and get started.

  • Paint, spray paint or acrylic paint works best
  • Mod Podge or glue
