Whether it’s something you need, want or just desperately have to have, your next online purchase can be way more satisfyingly sweet if you shop for a cause through iGive.
What it is
iGive.com is a unique online shopping experience that allows shoppers to automatically donate a portion of what they spend online to a preselected cause or charity of their choice. More than 1,000 online merchants have partnered with iGive.com, including Macy’s, Barnes & Noble, Gap, Amazon, Best Buy and Shopbop.
Since the creation of iGive.com in 1997, proceeds exceeding $6.2 million have been raised for more than 55,000 organizations. Members can donate to organizations to support a wide array of causes, including health and disease research, environmental awareness, education, animals, youth and community service and more. iGive.com currently has more than 300,000 members and the number is growing!
Why it was founded
Created by e-philanthropist Robert N. Grosshandler, iGive.com was founded in an effort to “enable the economic power of individuals to benefit their chosen communities.” iGive.com visualizes that in the future, “all consumer transactions will contain a percentage that benefits causes close to home.”
How it works
Creating an account on iGive.com is simple and free. To sign up, provide your name and email address and select the organization you would like to support with your online shopping. After creating an account, simply download the iGive button and start shopping! After your online purchase from a participating vendor is complete, a donation will automatically be made to your chosen organization. The online store you shop from will automatically send iGive the information needed to complete your donation, including the order amount and your iGive member ID (this does not identify you to the merchant; it is only used to keep track of the donations you make to your selected cause). Members can also download the iGive app for iPhones and iPads for mobile use. In addition to making the world a better place with charitable donations, iGive.com members are eligible for coupons and discounts to use while shopping.
