It’s time to deck the halls with the spirit of the season, but you’re tired of the usual red and green. Go ahead and decorate your home with an updated holiday color scheme. Here are some of the hottest color trends this holiday season.
Black and white
If you’re looking for a holiday color scheme that will take you beyond the holidays, consider a palette of black and white accented with red or green. When the tree is down and the presents are unwrapped, you can strip away the red and green, and keep the very current black and white colors.
Wrap gifts in newspaper and tie them up with red and white twine. Set up a hot-chocolate station with monogrammed black and white mugs and apothecary jars filled with marshmallows and candy canes. For a dramatic focal point, deck a white faux tree in black and white ornaments.
Mad for plaid
Stripes and chevrons have had their days, and plaid is taking their place as one of the hot decorating trends. Update classic plaid by using modern colors such as purple and pink or bright green and blue. Treat your out-of-town visitors to guest beds covered in plaid comforters. Add some plaid in the living room with throw pillows, and stud the tree with plaid ornaments. If you’re really mad for plaid, look for fun plaid designs on everything from dishes and tablecloths to rugs and wallpaper.
Silver and blue
Transform your home into a shimmering wonderland with silver and blue. Blue provides a dose of tranquility you’ll appreciate during the hectic holiday season, and silver evokes images of cool winter frost. Bring these colors into your home with a tree dripping in silver balls, beads and crystal ornaments. Light a fire and burn plenty of blue and white candles in silver candleholders for a beautiful glow. Use silver beaded garlands on the mantel, the chandelier or anywhere your home could use some sparkle. Jingle bells are another silvery touch — in a wreath on the door or strung with blue ribbons on doorknobs throughout your home.
Bring a relaxed and calming vibe into your home with the colors of nature accented with organic textures. Place branches from your yard in a vase, and decorate with nature-inspired ornaments such as felted wool acorns. You’ll be surprised how elegant a row of burlap stockings looks hanging from the mantel. Gifts wrapped in brown kraft paper and raffia, cable-knit throws and driftwood candles all help create a warm and soothing haven.
